The company further announced that Dorfner Anzaplan GmbH had completed the test work on the Zulu mine, and the results were notified on 16 June 2017. Dorfner is a reputable firm in lithium and speciality minerals processing and treatment. Although it is many years later, the results are still valid.

Dorfner reported that the rougher (spodumene) concentrate was upgraded to a concentrate with 6.5 wt in a single cleaner stage.-% Li2O at 81.8wt.-% recovery. Furthermore, Geolabs Global Pty Ltd has undertaken further floatation test work on material from Zulu this Summer.

Geolabs noted that the spodumene rougher concentrate obtained from mica tailings at a grind size of p80 150 pm was subjected to a four-stage cleaner test. Geolabs have reported that a spodumene concentrate with a chemical grade of 6.56% Li2O, 0.26% K2O, 0.47% Na2O, and 2.31% Fe2O3 was achieved.

Additionally, Geolabs revealed that the company could achieve an overall spodumene recovery of approximately 81%. Geolabs further reported that it may be worth testing magnetic separation on the final spodumene concentrate to reduce the Fe2O3 and meet the desired specifications.

Luckily for Premier African Minerals, the Zulu plant does have a magnetic separation unit. The company noted that it was currently installing the RHA mill oat Zulu as an interim mitigation measure. The mill has been decommissioned at RHA, transported to the Zulu site, and is currently being installed.

The company is currently completing the civil works and final assembly. The firm is also installing other feed and discharge components, control circuitry, pumps, and grinding media charge, all expected to complete in the next month when the plant’s commissioning is scheduled.

Stark, the project contractor, has estimated that the interim step should result in sufficient correctly sized material feeding to the floatation circuit to achieve close to 50% of design capacity.
