Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) has publicly criticised Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META) for its numerous requests to access the Cupertino-based company's software tools, citing significant privacy and security concerns. This dispute arises as Apple faces increasing pressure under the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which requires companies like Apple to allow interoperability with their services or face potential fines.

In recent interactions, Meta has submitted 15 requests for interoperability to Apple, a number reportedly higher than any other company. Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed concerns that granting these requests could compromise user privacy and security, referencing Meta’s history of privacy-related fines in Europe as a point of concern.

This isn't the first time the two tech giants have clashed. Since 2014, the CEOs of Apple and Meta have frequently disagreed over privacy policies, business models, and product strategies. In the most recent skirmish, Apple declined a proposal from Meta to integrate its chatbot Llama into the iPhone, a move that prompted criticism from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who described Apple’s approach as “soul-crushing.”

This ongoing dispute between giants highlights the ongoing struggle for balance between innovation, privacy, and regulatory compliance in the tech industry. The outcomes of these discussions could set significant precedents for how digital platforms operate within the EU and potentially influence global practices.
