Do Kwon, the cofounder of Terraform Labs, has tweeted that he is not “on the run,” even though he is wanted by the South Korean authorities and is facing prosecution there, whilst Interpol has issued a “red notice” for his arrest. So, who is Do Kwon?
Interpol Still Seeking Do Kwon
South Korean authorities have previously said they are unable to contact Do Kwon. The South Korean prosecutors’ office stated, “We have begun the procedure to place him on the Interpol red notice list and revoke his passport,” adding Do Kwon is “obviously on the run and has no intention to appear before us for questioning”. South Korean authorities asked Interpol for a red notice to prevent Do Kwon from fleeing extradition and Interpol have subsequently issued that notice.
Do Kwon Tweets He Is Not Hiding
Do Kwon has stated on Twitter that he is not hiding from the authorities. He tweeted, “I am not “on the run” or anything similar – for any government agency that has shown interest to communicate, we are in full cooperation and we don’t have anything to hide.” But his whereabouts are still unknown!
Who is Do Kwon?
Do Kwon (or Kwon Do-hyung) is one of the co-founders of Terra, a blockchain technology for payments, launched in January 2018. He is a South Korean who graduated Stanford University and briefly worked as an engineer at Apple and Microsoft. He co-founded and is CEO of Terraform Labs, who are behind the Terra blockchain. One of Terra’s key features was the stablecoin TerraUSD (UST), which is meant to maintain a peg to the US Dollar. Both TerraUSD and the network token Terra (LUNA) collapsed in May 2022 as part of the larger crypto bear market. He is currently facing prosecution in South Korea and Interpol have issued a “red notice” for his arrest.
