Wizz Air (LON: WIZZ) said Tuesday that it has struck a commercial support agreement with Pratt & Whitney to address ongoing issues with its PW1100G-JM geared turbofan (GTF) engines.

The agreement, which extends through to the end of 2026, is said to provide both operational support and a compensation package to cover direct costs linked to the grounding of approximately 40 Airbus A320NEO family aircraft due to powder metal defects in the engines.

The deal is aimed at mitigating the financial and operational impact of the grounded fleet while speeding up the return of affected aircraft to service.

Still, the low-cost airline projects a continued grounding of around 40 Airbus A320NEO family aircraft through F26 due to inspections required on its GTF fleet.

Despite the challenges, Wizz Air remains optimistic about its growth trajectory.

In fiscal year 2026, the airline plans to strengthen its operations with the delivery of 50 new Airbus A321NEO aircraft, contributing to an expected 20% increase in seat capacity.

The fleet expansion is expected to accelerate Wizz Air’s transition towards a more fuel-efficient operation, with A321NEO aircraft projected to comprise 77% of its fleet by the end of fiscal 2026.
